Update window: Feb 25, 2026 (final pre-launch snapshot) → April 29, 2026 (8 days post-12.0.5 + 7 days post-Apr 22 hotfix)
Methodology note: Tier verdicts below are a composite of multiple creator tier lists (no single creator carries the call) plus live empirical data. See "Where the sources disagree" for transparency.
TL;DR — How the Meta Actually Shaped Up
The pre-launch consensus held up for the top picks but missed an entire compositional shift in the middle. Brewmaster, Resto Druid, Aug Evoker, Demo Lock, Unholy DK, and Devourer DH all locked in S — five of those six were on every February tier list. But the loudest ranged-DPS calls collapsed: Arcane Mage and Fire Mage are bottom-tier, and the Mage class as a whole became a one-spec class (Frost). Arms Warrior, Feral Druid, and Outlaw Rogue all rose as composition-defining picks for physical-damage raid teams — the spec the field unanimously called "dog tier" / F-tier in February is now top-10 by live data. Resto Shaman quietly tied Resto Druid for #1 healer (within 9 score points), beating most pre-launch calls. Holy Priest is dead-last by data despite a flat +8% buff in 12.0.5. Tank meta is Brewmaster + 5 contested picks; tier placement of Guardian/Pal/Warrior depends entirely on which creator you read.
Bottom line: the top tier was predicted accurately, the bottom tier was rewritten almost completely, and the middle of the meta is where individual creators disagree most.
Composite Tier Lists (Apr 29, 2026)
These are the consensus tiers across multiple post-launch creator tier lists and live data. Each cell is the median tier across Petko (Icy Veins, Apr 26), Tettles (Wowhead, Apr 19, DPS), YoDaTV (Wowhead, Apr 20, Tank), AutomaticJak (Wowhead, Apr 21, Healer), and Murlok.io live data (refreshed every 8 hours). Where Petko's "Physical Comp" S-equivalent tier appears, it's noted as a comp-only consideration rather than raw output.
Tank Composite
| Composite Tier | Spec | Petko | YoDaTV | Murlok rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Brewmaster Monk | S | S | #1 (3932) |
| A | Guardian Druid | A+ | B | #2 (3735) |
| A-/B+ | Protection Warrior | A | B | #3 (3679) |

| B | Vengeance DH | B | B | #6 (3630) |
Healer Composite
| Composite Tier | Spec | Petko | AutomaticJak | Murlok rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|

| A | Mistweaver Monk | A | A | #3 (3873) |
| A | Holy Paladin | A | A | #5 (3704) |
| A/B+ | Discipline Priest | B | A | #4 (3735) |
| A/B+ | Preservation Evoker | B+ | A | #6 (3663) |
| B (consensus bottom) | Holy Priest | B | B | #7 (3508) |
DPS Composite
DPS tier list aggregates Petko (Apr 26), Tettles (Apr 19), and Murlok rank-bucketed (5 tiers across 27 specs). Only specs with creator agreement at S land in S; everything else is the median.
| Composite Tier | Specs |
|---|---|
| S | Augmentation Evoker, Devourer Demon Hunter, Unholy Death Knight, Demonology Warlock |
| A+ | Retribution Paladin |
| A (Comp Pick) | Arms Warrior, Feral Druid, Outlaw Rogue — Petko buckets these as "Physical Comp" S-equivalent for physical-damage raid teams; Tettles A/B; data top-11. Real value depends on group composition. |
| A | Elemental Shaman, Balance Druid, Frost Mage, Survival Hunter |
| A/B (split) | Shadow Priest (Petko A+ / Tettles C / Murlok #10), Windwalker Monk (Petko A / Tettles C / Murlok #19) |
| B | Fury Warrior, Assassination Rogue, BM Hunter, Havoc DH, Enhancement Shaman, Subtlety Rogue |
| C | Devastation Evoker, Marksmanship Hunter, Arcane Mage, Destruction Warlock, Fire Mage, Frost Death Knight, Affliction Warlock |
Where the Sources Disagree
Tier-list aggregation hides the most useful information — where the creator field actually splits. These are the disagreements worth knowing:
Tanks
- Guardian Druid: Petko A+ / YoDaTV B / Murlok #2. The data backs Petko, but YoDaTV's flatter tank list reflects a real read that Brewmaster is the only standalone meta tank.
- Prot Paladin: Petko A / YoDaTV B / Murlok #5. The "pug king" framing held in tier-list voice but data pulls it down.
- Prot Warrior: Petko A / YoDaTV B / Murlok #3. Live data is meaningfully ahead of YoDaTV's read.
- Discipline Priest: Petko B / AutomaticJak A. AutomaticJak (healer specialist) is the more authoritative source here; Petko's bucketing into B is harsh against live data (#4 by score).
- Preservation Evoker: Petko B+ / AutomaticJak A. Same direction — Jak more generous.
- Resto Shaman: Petko A+ / AutomaticJak S. Both are top-of-tier reads; the question is whether RShaman has actually overtaken RDruid (data says ~9 score points apart, essentially tied).
- Shadow Priest: Petko A+ / Tettles C / Murlok #10. Largest single-spec disagreement on the DPS board. Petko sees the spec, Tettles doesn't.
- Windwalker Monk: Petko A / Tettles C / Murlok #19. Tettles closer to data.
- Outlaw Rogue: Petko "Physical Comp" S-equivalent / Tettles B / Murlok #11. Petko's comp-based framing is doing heavy lifting; raw output is mid-pack.
- Feral Druid: Petko "Physical Comp" S-equivalent / Tettles B / Murlok #7. Petko closer to data.
- Survival Hunter: Petko A+ / Tettles B / Murlok #9. Petko closer to data.
- Arcane / Fire / Destro: Petko C / Tettles B. Tettles is more conservative on the bottom; Murlok's data confirms Petko is closer to reality (all three at #23-26).
Pre-Launch Consensus vs. Live Reality
Each row is a Hit / Partial / Miss verdict against the Feb 25 source guide call, anchored to the composite above (not any single creator).
Tanks
| Spec | Feb 25 Consensus | Composite (Apr 29) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brewmaster Monk | S (lock) | S | Hit, with caveat. Apr 7 hotfix cut Vital Flame 50%→40% and Predictive Training 10%→8%; Blizzard explicitly stated the spec was "a bit too potent." Still dominant by ~200 score points. |
| Guardian Druid | S (rising) | A | Partial. Late-beta S-tier hype didn't survive launch nerfs; mid-April partial buffs brought it back near top but not S. Source disagreement is wide (Petko A+, YoDaTV B). |
| Prot Paladin | A (pug king) | B+ | Partial miss. Tier voice held, live data pulled it down. |
| Prot Warrior | B | B+ | Hit, slight upgrade. Better than predicted by data; YoDaTV undersells. |
| Vengeance DH | A (bug risk) | B | Direction hit, magnitude bigger. The 12.0.5 rework (45s CD, 2 charges, 40% personal DR) didn't restore it. Bottom-tier tank by every source. |
| Blood DK | B (improved) | B | Hit. |
Healers
| Spec | Feb 25 Consensus | Composite (Apr 29) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resto Druid | S | S | Clean hit. Held S, plus Apr 7 Lifebloom Everbloom redesign was a buff on top. |
| Resto Shaman | A (only healer interrupt) | S/A+ | Bigger hit than the guide gave credit. Live data nearly tied with Resto Druid. AutomaticJak rates it S. |
| Mistweaver | A (rising) | A | Hit. Top three healers within 12 score points — closest healer balance in years. |
| Disc Priest | A | A/B+ | Partial. Petko has it B, Jak has it A. 12.0.5 nerfs landed but data still has it #4. |
| Holy Paladin | A | A | Hit on placement, miss on direction. Despite the loudest 12.0.5 buff package (Holy Shock +10%, WoG +20%, Greater Judgment absorb +250%), it stayed at A. |
| Pres Evoker | C (M+) / S (Raid) | A/B+ for M+ | Partial hit. M+ better than the "C-tier" pre-launch read; raid value still strong. |
| Holy Priest | A | B (consensus bottom) | Miss. The flat +8% wasn't enough; empirically the worst M+ healer by ~150+ score points. |
DPS — top of meta
| Spec | Feb 25 Consensus | Composite (Apr 29) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aug Evoker | S | S, #1 by data | Clean hit. |
| Devourer DH | S (wildcard) | S, #2 by data | Bigger hit than guide gave credit. 12.0.5 Soul Immolation rework cemented top non-support DPS. |
| Unholy DK | S (lock) | S, #3 by data | Clean hit. |
| Demo Lock | S ("crown king") | S, #4 by data | Clean hit. No direct buffs — pure consistency. |
DPS — surprises and big swings
| Spec | Feb 25 Consensus | Composite (Apr 29) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arms Warrior | F / "dog tier" / "negative damage" | A (Comp Pick), #6 by data | Catastrophic miss. The most-mocked spec of the pre-launch period is now meta. Compositional shift toward physical-damage raids carried it. Liquid's Crown of the Cosmos Mythic-first clear (Apr 9) used 3 Aug Evokers + 2 Demo Locks + a Ret Pal "carry." |
| Feral Druid | Mid-low | A (Comp Pick) | Surprise riser. Petko's "Physical Comp" framing matches data (#7). |
| Outlaw Rogue | Mid | A (Comp Pick) | Hit by direction (utility), miss on tier. Comp framing carries it; raw output mid (#11). |
| Shadow Priest | Mid | A/B (split) | Surprise riser, but contested. Petko A+, Tettles C — biggest creator split. |
| Survival Hunter | Mid | A | Surprise riser. |
| Arcane Mage | S (nerfed but elite) | C, #23 by data | Catastrophic miss. Single biggest fall of any spec in the cycle. |
| Fire Mage | A+ ("you're getting baited") | C, #25 by data | Petko's pinned warning aged better than his tier placement. |
| Destro Lock | A (rising) | C | Big miss. Pre-launch had it "Unsure between A and A+"; live state is bottom. Hellcaller / Rain of Fire build didn't survive tuning. |
| BM Hunter | C ("atrocious ST") | B | Recovery. Came back to mid-tier. |
| Devastation Evoker | C | C | Hit. |
| Affliction Lock | Mid | C, #27 dead last | Miss — worse than predicted. |
| Frost DK | B | C | Hit, slightly worse. |
| Marksmanship Hunter | Mid | C | Hit by 12.0.5 Marks AoE nerf. |
Blue Posts Driving the Current Meta
Blizzard-quoted intents and explicit changes that produced the current state. This is the citation set for the "Sources" / "Blue Post Tracker" portion of the live guide.
Apr 7, 2026 — Hotfixes (the headline tank tuning):
Moving into Midnight, Brewmasters gained a significant amount of self-healing. While this has shored up one of the spec's longstanding weaknesses, the total of their defensive capability is a bit too potent. These changes aim to tone down self-healing and narrow the gap between Monks and other tank specializations.
Concretely: Vital Flame 50% → 40%; Shado-Pan: Predictive Training 10% → 8%.
Apr 17, 2026 — Hotfixes: Mid-patch corrections including Resto Shaman cooldown partial restoration.
Apr 21, 2026 — Patch 12.0.5 (Lingering Shadows) live:
- Vengeance DH: Fiery Brand reworked — 40% personal DR over 12s; CD 60s → 45s; gains an additional charge. Fracture damage +37.5%, CD 4.5s → 6s, fury 20 → 25. Infernal Strike CD 20s → 15s and now affected by Haste; +50% damage. Vengeance ST also gets melee auto-attack +40%, Soul Cleave Focused Cleave bonus 50% → 60%, Soul Carver +50%.
- Unholy DK: Talent tree reorg; new "Cycle of Death" talent (Putrefy ↔ Death and Decay CD-reduction loop).
- Devourer DH: Soul Immolation no longer self-damages.
- Holy Priest: Flat +8% to all healing across every spell.
- Holy Paladin: Holy Shock +10%, WoG +20%, Greater Judgment absorb +250%.
- Resto Druid: Lifebloom's Everbloom redesigned — bloom now spreads healing to nearby allies.
- Pres Evoker: -5% to all healing (Verdant Embrace mana lowered as compensation).
Apr 27 – 28, 2026 — Cleanup hotfixes:
- Unholy DK: Festering Scythe converted to a player aura; Magus of the Dead spawn fix; Forbidden Knowledge Rank 4 fix; Unholy Devotion no longer grants Haste; Disease Cloud now cast by the Abomination.
- Resto Druid: Blooming Infusion no longer counts each target of Nature's Bounty / Rampant Growth as an additional cast.
- Affliction Warlock: Abyssal Immolator 4-piece bonus fix; Unstable Affliction via Fatal Echoes fix.
- Frost Mage: Party Sync spell-lock fix.

Source Accuracy Scorecard (Provisional)
This addresses the existing guide's open "Source Accuracy Scorecard" placeholder.
| Source | Strongest call | Weakest call | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petko (Icy Veins) | All four S-tier DPS picks (Aug, Devourer, Unholy, Demo); Brewmaster S; pinned Fire Mage warning; "Physical Comp" framing for Arms/Feral/Outlaw matched live data direction | Pre-launch Arcane Mage S (now C); Pre-launch Guardian Druid S (now A); Disc Priest B is harsher than data supports | Strongest single source on direction, sometimes too aggressive on placement. |
| Tettles (Wowhead, DPS) | Conservative top tier (no S-tier, only A+) aged well — none of his A+ DPS dropped; correctly identified Marks AoE as inflated | Shadow Priest at C, WW Monk at C — both significantly higher in data; Arcane/Fire at B is too generous | Strongest mid-and-bottom DPS source. |
| YoDaTV (Wowhead, Tank) | Brewmaster S; correctly flagged VDH dropping post-bug-fix | Apr 20 list flattens Guardian/Pal/War/VDH/BDK all to B — data and Petko both disagree by Apr 26 | Slightly stale by ~1 hotfix wave. Was the strongest tank-only source in February but Petko's Apr 26 update overtook it. |
| AutomaticJak (Wowhead, Healer) | Resto Druid + Resto Shaman both S matches data; healer-specialism makes this the most authoritative healer source | Apr 21 list pre-dates Apr 22 hotfix; Disc/Pres at A is more generous than Petko but data backs Jak | Strongest healer source overall. |
| Murlok.io | Empirical, refreshes every 8h | n/a — empirical | Most current empirical source. Should be added to the source guide if it isn't already. |
| Archon.gg | Brewmaster #1 by score; the 5-spec DPS S-tier Feb 25 snapshot was structurally right (just with the wrong fifth member — Arcane fell out) | Their own warning about "treating testing data as live data" was correct; the C→A Fire Mage swing just before launch was largely Archon-driven and didn't survive | Best as confirmation, not leading indicator. |
| Tactyks (Method) | Pre-launch raid-vs-M+ disambiguation for VDH and Guardian was real; Pres Evoker M+/Raid divide held | M+ tier list page is stale (Mar 31, 2026) — pre-12.0.5 entirely | Currently the worst summary source for live meta. Don't cite. |
| Awoo | Fiery Brand bug call ("if they fix that bug, this tank could drop") was directionally exactly right | Underweighted just how far VDH would drop after the rework (not the patch) | Most prescient bug-risk call. |
| Sha | Guardian Druid threat issue ("massive problem in keys") and Moonless Knight buffs being "incredible" — both validated post-launch | — | Best mechanism-level analysis. |
| Maximum (Liquid) panel | Pres Evoker raid S / M+ C split, Guardian Druid raid S | — | Best for raid-only meta. Liquid's Crown of the Cosmos Mythic clear (Apr 9) raid comp matches. |
| zorthas | VDH B-tier post-bug-fix call (closest individual placement); now matched by Petko's Apr 26 list | — | Best contrarian call that landed. |
| echo / wolfdisco / xerwo (Maxroll) | n/a — page is stuck on "Last Updated: March 2, 2026" (launch day) | Entire post-launch period uncovered | Stale. Do not cite. |
Most significant single-creator miss across the field: nobody had Arms Warrior climbing to the top-10 DPS slot via physical-comp raid building. Most significant single-creator hit: Awoo's pre-launch Fiery Brand bug warning is now the textbook example of a creator-flagged risk that landed.
Open Questions for Next Check-In (mid-May)
- Does Resto Shaman overtake Resto Druid? Live data has them 9 score points apart.
- Does Arcane Mage get a sympathy buff? Three weeks at C is unusual for a former S spec.
- Is the Arms / Feral / Outlaw "Physical Comp" status durable, or is it a tier-set artifact that fades next tier?
- Does Disc Priest recover, or is the 12.0.5 nerf permanent?
- Does VDH stay at B post-rework or get a corrective buff?
- Shadow Priest + WW Monk: which creator's read (Petko's higher placement vs. Tettles' lower) does live data validate as keys go higher?
